Old cemeteries leave a lot of unanswered questions. Good interpretive signs make old cemeteries understandable. Quality exhibits and signage help visitors understand and appreciate the importance of these precious cultural resources.
In 2023, Save the Graves installed over 25 interpretive signs in Placerville Union Cemetery. Topics ranged from biographies of notable deceased to Victorian headstone symbology and 19th century headstone carvers. Another 15 signs were installed in 2024, highlighting more examples of Victorian headstone symbology and the history of some of the fraternal orders that founded Placerville Union Cemetery in 1871.
