Event Details

Save the Date! Our fifth annual Save the Graves event will be held on Saturday, October 19.

Throughout the day skilled actors in period attire tell their character’s story from beyond the grave.

Four major crime stories that shook El Dorado County in the post Gold Rush era

  • The Susan Newnham Murder, A Tale of Unrequited Love.
  • The John Lowell Murder: Trial, Petitions, and Moral Conflict.
  • The Only Successful Escape from Folsom Prison Culminates in a Fatal Shootout on Manzanita Hill.
  • The Bullion Bend Heist: El Dorado County Sheriff Deputies Take on  California Confederacy Thieves.

And don’t miss the opportunity to meet Lulu Belle Cook: Badge, Broom & Justice.

Each depiction is scripted and historically accurate. Between the brief performances, guests can wander the grand Victorian garden cemetery, and discover the featured characters and other wonders of this century-and-a-half-old place. While exploring, look for interpretive signs that describe other characters buried here along with information about headstone carvers, their symbols and more.

Exhibitors will also be on hand where guests can learn about other local groups.
