Headstone Maintenance
Save the Graves schedules volunteer work parties throughout the year to clean lichen-encrusted headstones throughout El Dorado County. Specially trained volunteers also straighten, raise and repair headstones.
Dozens of leaning headstones have been straightened by specially trained volunteers, adding years to the headstone’s life. In a separate effort, Save the Graves provides supplies and materials to fix broken headstones at several cemeteries in El Dorado County.
Our oldest headstones are marble, a soft stone which deteriorates over time. Proper cleaning extends their life, retains the important information they contain, and honors those buried beneath them.
