John Kemp’s Headstone

Project Highlight

John Kemp is buried in one of the earliest areas of the cemetery, which is also one of the most heavily vandalized. His tombstone sat at a skewed angle, likely the result of such vandalism. Sister Rachel is buried next to him. Both of their tombstones were broken in the past and repaired. Her repair held. His did not.

The Kemp headstone was one of 16 repairs sponsored by Save the Graves in 2022.

Kemp was a resident of Oak Ranch, also known as 2 Mile House. His tombstone bears one of the most common symbols in Freemasonry, the square and compass intertwined with the letter “G,” which stands for both God and geometry.
